The Yoga Routine Every Beginner Should Try

The Yoga Routine Every Beginner Should Try

One of the challenges of being new to yoga is usually not knowing what poses to do during a home practice. Sure, there are plenty of YouTube videos to get you started, but we highly recommend getting comfortable with at least one sequence that you can do on your own.

So which yoga sequence should you start with?

Our favorite, and one of the most common flows practiced in Vinyasa yoga is Surya Namaskar A, or more commonly known as, Sun Salutation. What makes this series of poses so perfect for beginners and advanced practitioners alike?

A few reasons:

  1. It energizes, stretches and tones the entire body
  2. You can find all components of a Vinyasa practice within these 11 poses: spinal extension, flexion, arm balances, core work, and inversions
  3. It’s a great way to warm up your body for more advanced yoga moves
  4. It provides a solid foundation for moving meditation and is a great way to practice linking each movement to your inhale or exhale
  5. It’s a gesture of respect and gratitude and is an opportunity to check in with your body

Watch THIS video to see it in action! And if you’re in need of breath cues, we’ve got you covered below:

Now that you’ve done one full round of Sun Salutation, it’s time to do it again! We recommend repeating this sequence 10 times if you aren’t doing any other yoga poses in between.

Remember to go slow, move mindfully, and always strive to practice consistently. Soon you'll be ready to add Surya Namaskar B to your routine!
