AH, THE HOLIDAYS!--Big hearty meals, bubbly & cocktails abound, rich candies and sweets... But come January 1st, you’ve found that somewhere between Thanksgiving and New Years your pants have gotten tighter and you’re not feeling your best. That’s why we put together these six hacks that’ll keep you on track during the holidays without having to deprive yourself of all the goodness the season has to offer.
There’s no need to skip the turkey, ham, duck, or whatever other delicious protein-rich dish that’s on the menu. During holiday meals and parties, fill a large part of your plate with the protein-packed foods, which will give you lasting energy, keep you full and fuel any workouts you want to squeeze in.
Between holiday shopping and afterwork cocktail parties, it’s tough to fit in your workout after 5 o’clock. Get your sweat session in during the morning hours--because you know it’s not going to happen after that second glass of champagne. Bonus is that you’ll get in more of those precious daylight hours--something we miss out on when the sun sets at 4:30pm.
Hydration is going to be key with all of the salty snacks and booze around you. Carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go, which will encourage you to get your 8 glasses a day.
It can be hard to eat enough vegetables during the holiday season, so start incorporating a green juice loaded with vitamin-rich foods like spinach and kale into your day.
Your body has a harder time processing rich foods that you don’t eat often (a.k.a. everything we eat during the month of December), but getting plenty of fiber will help to keep your digestive tract on point. Snack on foods like popcorn, avocados, kale chips, squash and carrot sticks. And instead of reaching for that cold-pressed juice, stick with a blended option (see ours here), which doesn’t take out all the fiber in the fruits and vegetables its made with.
We get that a full-out detox is a lot to take on when your evenings are fully booked with parties. Instead, take a Sunday to regroup and reset. Do a 1 day juice cleanse and treat yourself by drawing a hot bath, reading your favorite book, and catching some zzzzzz’s.
